Founder's Story

Our Founder's Journey

Thomas Herd’s story is one of incredible talent, hard lessons, and relentless determination. A promising hockey career was cut short by concussions, a consequence of not recognizing dangers early enough. This pattern continued in business, where naivete and lack of self-protection led to the downfall of his first business, a failed compensation package in his second, and lapses in leadership decision making and corporate governance in his third that nearly cost him everything he worked over a decade for. These experiences inspired Thomas to create Preemptive Paths, aiming to help others avoid similar pitfalls and protect their futures.

Why Preemptive Paths ?

Because One Mistake Shouldn't Define Your Future

At Preemptive Paths, we understand that everyone deserves a second chance. Our mission is to provide the tools, support, and awareness necessary to help individuals course-correct before it’s too late. Whether it’s through our sponsorship programs, group circles, or awareness campaigns, we are dedicated to making a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve.

Our Goal is to empower Lives by Preventing Mistakes

Our Mission

We Make a Difference in their Life

Human nature is to learn from our mistakes only once we’re penalized (often severely) for them. Yet, for many, going down the wrong path or engaging in unscrupulous activities or distractions, one mistake can be fatal to careers, relationships, and even lives. As someone who has experienced mental, physical, and even career implosion as a result of veering down the wrong paths at times in my life and as someone who has worked tirelessly to put myself and my family in a good situation, I wanted to start Preemptive Paths to come to the service of all people who want to catch themselves before it’s too late and self-correct to protect their futures.

Preemptive Pathways Service Model

For the first year of our development, Preemptive Pathways will focus its efforts on identifying and empowering individuals, companies, and organizations making an impact across the spectrum of our key causes.  Specifically, Preemptive Pathways will help these agents of positive change in the following areas
Spreading Awareness Through The Media and on Social Media using the relationships and solutions of its sister agency T1 Advertising.
Developing the business/organizational models for early stage activist driven initiatives, projects, and companies that support our initiatives
Developing a community of like minded people, including entrepreneurs, executives, and activists to utilize their platforms to support our constituent projects

Mental Health

As someone who has long struggled with various forms of OCD, I’ve met many beautiful, courageous souls facing this painful and irrational disorder. Though it can often feel isolating—like we’re alone with anxieties that seem urgent to “fix,” “figure out,” or “prevent”—this very struggle is what connects us.

Recognizing this, I wanted to turn my greatest obstacle into a way to help others. Through my mental health nonprofit Preemptive Pathways, I’ve started a Peer-Led Facebook Group—OCD Feels So Real—to foster connection, solidarity, and support.

The group will offer meaningful, on-demand support, weekly updates with evidence-based therapy resources, and contributions from licensed therapists and specialists. We’ll provide helpful support—never reassurance-seeking—and create a respectful, nonjudgmental, and confidential space.

Note: This group is not a substitute for professional treatment.
If you need professional help, please consult trusted OCD treatment centers and resources like the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) for comprehensive information, therapist directories, and community support.
